Hosted by Peking University and co-sponsored by the International Commission for Optics, the Sixth International Conference on Nanophotonics (ICNP) was held at the Peking University Overseas Exchange Center from May 27 to May 30, 2012.

Professor Gong Qihuang delivers opening remarks

Professor Gong Qihuang presented the opening remarks of the Conference. He reviewed the development of the Conference, emphasizing that nanophotonics become a new field of interdisciplinary scientific research in rapid growth. He said the Conference was held to provide a platform to facilitate the communication among scientists and researchers from different nations.

The conference was co-chaired by Professor Gong Qihuang from the PKU School of Physics and Professor Joseph Haus from the University of Dayton. Five leading international scholars in the field delivered plenary talks: Professor Xiang Zhang from the University of California at Berkeley, Professor Thomas Ebbesen from the University of Strasbourg, Professor Satoshi Kawata from Osaka University, and Professor Zhou Xing from Peking University. Thirty-nine renowned scholars also gave invited talks on the Conference. In total, more than 300 participants from over nineteen countries joined the Conference sessions.
 

The ICNP 2012 covered a wide range of nanophotonics from materials science, device physics/chemistry to optic/photonic applications. Topics included (1) nanophotonics for bio/energy/environment, (2) nanophotonics for information technology, and (3) fabrication/characterization/modeling for nanophotonics.
 

The Conference series was initiated by scholars in nanophotonics in 2007 and had been successfully held in China and Japan in the last five years (Hangzhou in 2007, Nanjing in 2008, Harbin in 2009, Tsukuba in 2010, Shanghai in 2011).
