Vice President of Trinity College Dublin Visits PKU

Trinity College Dublin’s Vice President, Juliette Hussey, together with Sinead Ryan, Director of International Cooperation, and Xin Sun, Associate Professor of Political Science, visited PKU on the afternoon of October 27th. Ye Jingyi, Vice Chairwoman of PKU Council, and Zheng Ruqing, Deputy Director of the Office of International Relations, received the guests at Linhuxuan.

Ye Jingyi extended warm welcome for the arrival of Juliette Hussey. Prof. Juliette Hussey thanked Vice Chairwoman Ye for her gracious reception. She shared the strategic plan of Trinity College Dublin with Ye Jingyi and stated that they consider Chinese Studies as one of the most important parts of their plan. Prof. Hussey also mentioned the dominant position of Trinity College Dublin in Medical Science, Social Science and other fields. She emphasized that Trinity College Dublin attaches great importance to interdisciplinary researches, especially to global issues such as environmental protection, growth of children and aging.

Ye Jingyi was delighted to hear that Chinese Studies has good prospects in Ireland. She said that promoting Chinese Studies in Ireland can also help Chinese students understand Ireland culture. She also mentioned that PKU excels in Arts and Sciences and is striving to develop its interdisciplinary studies. Finally, she emphasized that PKU and Trinity College Dublin can cooperate on demographic research with theoretical strengths from Ireland and rich population resources of China.

After the meeting, both parties signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding and exchanged gifts.
