On the morning of November 3rd, Prof. Shaikha Abdulla Al-Misnad, President of Qatar University，paid a visit to Peking University (PKU). She was accompanied by Dr. Eiman Mohd Tayyeb Mustafawi, Dean of College of Arts and Sciences，Dr. Fatma Mohammed Al-Sowaidi, Associate Dean for Outreach and Engagement，Dr. Abdullah Saleh Ba abood, Director of Gulf Studies Center. PKU President Wang Enge, together with Vice President Li Yansong, Dean of the College of Engineering Zhang Dongxiao, met the guests and discussed the possibilities of cooperation.
There exists a long history of cooperation between the two universities. During the meeting, President Wang introduced the recently established Yanjing Academy which offers courses regarding Chinese culture, modern economy and law to enhance international students’ understanding about Chinese culture. He extended his invitation for outstanding students from Qatar University to join in the program. On the other hand, Professor Sheikha expressed delight that Peking University had groomed many outstanding students and hoped that these students could study in Qatar University.
PKU Vice President Li Yansong had led a group to visit Qatar University in March this year. Prof. Sheikha expressed her desire to set up a Middle-East Research Program to advance Peking University’s research on Middle East and Gulf region.
Prof. Sheikha added that Qatar University wished to explore more areas of cooperation with the PKU College of Engineering. Professor Zhang Xiaodong from the PKU College of Engineering replied positively, noting that the Middle East Research program would establish a strong basis for long-term cooperation between the two universities.
