On the morning of April 1, 2016, a delegation led by Gretchen Ritter, Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences of Cornell University, visited Peking University (PKU). They were warmly welcomed by Gao Song, Vice President of PKU, Li Chenjian, Deputy Dean of PKU, and other PKU officials.
Cornell University has worked closely with PKU in many academic collaborative activities and exchange programs. This was not the first time that Ms. Ritter had visited PKU. She noted the good relationship that Cornell shared with the PKU law school. Mr. Gao and the PKU delegation discussed some of the major developments in China’s fast-growing society. The Cornell delegation expressed amazement at the changes that were taking place in China, especially in its higher education field.
Then, Mr. Li introduced some of PKU’s international endeavors, of which the Yenching Academy (YCA) is a quite successful example. Mr. Xu of the Cornell Delegation added that some Cornell students had already applied for the YCA program.
After that, the Cornell delegation inquired about about teaching, funding, other aspects of PKU’s academics. The communication went smoothly and pleasantly, serving as an inspiration for greater collaboration for both sides. Ms. Ritter also emphasized on giving students the liberty to choose their own paths. The meeting then concluded with an exchange of gifts, and the two universities expressing their sincere hope to promote even greater cooperation.
