Cambridge Peking University China Centre Launches at PKU

On April 15, 2016, the Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University, along with other delegates, visited Peking University (PKU).

After performances by the Jesus College Students Choir, Li Yansong, Vice President of PKU, offered a warm welcome to the guests. Then several speeches were delivered by Lin Jianhua, President of PKU; Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to the UK; Mark Gooding, the British Embassy Minister Counsellor; Douglas Flint, President of HSBC; Zhao Yang Dean of the PKU School of Chinese as a Second Language; Ian White, Master of Jesus College Cambridge; and Lezek Borysiewicz, Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University.

President Lin warmly welcomed the guests from Jesus College Cambridge. He referred to the achievements and collaboration of both universities, and said he looked forward to the success of the Cambridge Peking University China Centre. Liu Xiaoming, as well as Mark Gooding, emphasized the importance of an international perspective and bilateral relationships, and they expressed their hope that the China Centre would promote students’ academic and cultural communication. The speeches were concluded by Ian White, Master of Jesus College and Lezek Borysiewicz, Vice Chancellor of Cambridge, with their wishes for the new China Centre to be a great success.

The ceremony concluded with Li Yansong, Vice President of PKU and Ian White, Master of Jesus College Cambridge, signing the agreement for the Cambridge Peking University China Centre.
