Indian Ambassador to China Visits PKU

On April 14, 2016, Vijay Gokhale, Indian Ambassador to China, visited Peking University (PKU). Li Yansong, Vice President of PKU, along with Ning Qi, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, and Wang Bangwei, Dean of the Institute of Oriental Studies in the School of Foreign Languages, hosted the reception in the west hall of Linhuxuan.

After exchanging greetings, the Ambassador and the PKU delegation began the conversation by mentioning that the president of India attaches great importance to communication between universities in both countries. He also explained the need for Indian professors to visit China to deeper their understanding of education on both sides. Vice President Li agreed with the Ambassador’s proposals and added that in 2003, PKU had successfully received Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India.

Then, the Ambassador said that as the Indian president would like to collect books and add them to the presidential library. Ambassador Gokhale suggested that PKU select publications related to South Asia studies or Indian studies written by PKU professors to show what sort of academic work was being done, which would benefit mutual understanding between the two countries. Professor Ning and Professor Wang wholeheartedly agreed with the proposal.
