On the afternoon of May 13, 2016, Professor Gustavo Piga, Vice Rector of the University of Rome Tor Vergata; Doctor Andrea Appolloni, Researcher and Faculty Member from the Department of Management and Law of Tor Vergata visited Peking University (PKU). Li Yansong, Vice President of PKU; Zheng Ruqing, Vice Director of the Office of International Relations received the guests at the West Hall of Linhuxuan.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Li and Ms. Zheng warmly welcomed the delegates. Then they focused on the topic of student exchanges. Mr. Piga put forward several plans for summer program between PKU and Tor Vergata. Both sides supported the proposal and mentioned that more and more students were getting interested in foreign countries and universities abroad, yet not enough exchange programs were provided. Thus, Tor Vergata and PKU should definitely accelerate the pace of developing communication and cooperation. Ms. Zheng also introduced plenty of ongoing student exchange programs at PKU. “We have approximately twenty summer programs,” she said, “so if our program is appealing enough, chances are that more students will apply for it.” Therefore, the two sides reached an agreement, as well as went deeper into more detailed arrangements about the summer programs and future projects. At the end of the meeting, Mr. Piga expressed that Tor Vergata had also been willing to launch double degree programs with PKU, which could be discussed later.

After the meeting, Mr. Li and Mr. Piga presented each other with books introducing their respective universities. Then the delegation of Tor Vergata went sightseeing and visited some of the renowned scenic spots in PKU.
