On the morning of September 20, 2016, Hongming Wei, Executive Director of Master Kong, and Kamata Kaoru, Principal of Waseda University, were here to visit. Jianhua Lin, President of PKU, Yansong Li, Vice President of PKU, Hua Sun, Secretary of Yuanpei College, Xiaoying Zheng, Head of Institute of Population Research, Yong Zhang, Vice Secretary of Foundation, and Ruqing Zhen, Vice Director of Office of International Relations welcomed the guests at Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.
President Lin firstly welcomed the arrival of Mr. Hongming Wei and Principal Kamata Kaoru. He mentioned that he was very glad to see the communication and cooperation between PKU and Waseda University. The exchange programs between the two Universities have received wide popularity among students. He also recalled his own experience ten years ago. Then, President Lin expressed his appreciation to the well-known reputation of Master Kong in China.
Principal Kamata Kaoru acclaimed the reception of PKU. He pointed out that the early communication with PKU was very successful; and all the students who had participated in the earlier exchange programs have achieved remarkable accomplishments in almost every field. He also appreciated Master Kong for the strong support to the communication programs of the two Universities. Principal Kamata Kaoru expected for more academic cooperation and alumni association, as well as extending the scale of Joint-Degree Programs; ultimately, strengthening the relationship between China and Japan.
Mr. Hongming Wei mentioned that his father emphasized education very much, and believed that businesses should contribute to society in other fields, such as education, medication, etc. He was very pleased to see different trades work together. He brought out the idea of establishing a specialized group for trilateral cooperation in order to conduct more amicable conversations and implement cooperation projects more efficiently.
Background Information: Master Kong, whose head quarter locates in Tianjin, mainly produces instant noodles, beverages, desserts, and it also manages other related industries in China. Waseda University is known internationally in academic achievements and scientific researches. In December of 2015, the three sides initially showed their cooperation when Vice President Yansong Li attended the Waseda University-Master Kong scholarship program conference in Shanghai.
